Pioneering Model Com 07

To my Dearest Scouts,

How have you guys been after exams? It has been a while since i last saw all of you. Your rover me is already in Ns and doesnt have the time to come down to meeting anymore unless the meeting is on saturday and i hope for that to happen. I hope all of you feel the same.

I am sure all of you are aware of the pioneering model competition right? Like you and me, we had all forgotten the dates but i hope all of you never forget that i once told you guys to start thinking weeks back but that is not the point. My scouts, last year sec 1 now sec 2, do you guys still remember how we took part in the event last year? I'm sure you guys remember the events because that is the first competition that you guys joined. We came in third for 2 events however we didnt have any trophy because trophies are only awarded to the top 2 ranks. This year, we have a new mix of sec 1 and we brought them into this competition. This competition may seem small but it is good enough for us to see how good we really are. Remember what we did for the models last year? Ask yourselves this: Are we going to stay at the same level as last year or is it time to push ourselves more and make a new benchmark and record for ourselves? Many people may tell you joining competition is not about winning but i tell you i doubt so because joining competition is about winning. Without having this aim, you never work towards this goal. With this goal, you will do anything just to ensure you will win the race. Even when people lost the competition, they cry, it's okay because when people fail, people learn from mistakes and ensure they wont repeat it again. And I rather we fail than we never tried.
This unit is now in your hands and it is always in your hands, not mine (though still mine because that is where i came from and where i train my boys). Whatever the result, it reflects on you and finally your unit. How good your unit is depends on how its people want to do for the unit. How bad the unit is shows how its people are not putting effort to improve it. Now Scouter wilbur and i are serving national service, we cant go down as often but we definitely hope that you guys can keep your spirit and promise there and most importantly, (is not to disappoint us) you must remember that you guys must not disappoint yourselves. Everything you do is for yourself, not for anyone. I always told myself this, I will only disappoint myself if i never do in my best; I will not disappoint myself if i put in my best even i didnt win;we must always do things smartly; dont do it for the sake of doing it; then when we fail, we know that we are doing our best and not crying over things that you are already not putting your best in. Hence from last year's experience, we learn and we apply new skills into it.

WHICH IS MY BEST WORK? MY BEST WORK IS MY NEXT WORK.

I have shown some models from last year. A good model will reflect how much effort the team members put in.

Fajar BRIDGE

---------

Zhenghua CREATIVITY (campsite)

the front door is a sliding(moveable) door - very innovative. they use a good material for "spars". They show our group name, they got good points for that. the more group stuffs we have, the more points awarded. the plastic thing that you see, it is actually a shelter - clever material to use. the "grass", good material to show it is GRASS.

Close up:

Inside is neat and tidy. you look at it, you understand what is it. arrangement - scored.

Zhenghua TOWER:

What catches our eyes are the sharp edges and angles. See the front opening gate. It catches our eyes and look innovative and nice. This scores point.

material use is not good enough - satay stick. however, the whole thing may seem a possible structure. Good use of colours.

Congrats on Kayaking + Outdoor Precaution

Hey, congrats to everyone who attended the Kayaking course. You all did a good job and I hope that you all had lots of fun there. Now that you all have experience Kayaking, might as well take the Outdoor Precaution test now.

All you have to do is just to do a logbook on 2 land activities and 1 sea activities. With your experience in Kayaking, I believe you all have alot to write about the safety issues and what to look out for.

Do the logbook as if you are going to teach me a newbie who do not know anything about the activity. It should not be just 4 to 6 points but as many as possible. Brainstorm and think of what are the dangers that may occur.

I have some things to standardize for your logbook:

Font type - Arial
Font size - 12

1.5 spacing

Each activity should be at least 3 pages long.

You can take a look at the notes at our resource page. Password is the same. http://www.geocities.com/fox_scout

Good luck! If you are done, just contact either myself or Rover KY to hand in...

By the way, I will be enlisting tomorrow (9th Oct) so I won't be seeing you all that often already. Take care guys and remember, you all have to pass Standard by this year! All the best!
